Gary M. Hahn

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Michael Hahn, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home on September 17, 2026.

Born on May 10, 1966, in Covington, Virginia, Gary's lived a life defined by dedication, love, and service to others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Hahn and Rebecca Pyle Bowden, as well as his father-in-law, W. Stanley Newbold.

Gary was a devoted husband to Stephanie, with whom he shared thirty-five years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, Brittney and Brian, and built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

A man of service, Gary proudly served in the Army National Guard for eight years, demonstrating the sense of duty and commitment that remained with him throughout his life.

Professionally, Gary built a successful career in sales and merchandising while also pursuing his entrepreneurial passion as the founder of Hahn and Son Lawncare. Through hard work and determination, he provided for his family and served his community with pride.

Gary had a lifelong love of sports and rarely missed one of his children's games or practices. He was an active participant in and manager of a local recreational softball team and enjoyed cheering on University of Virginia athletics. He also treasured time spent with his dogs, especially his beloved boxer, Angus. Known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and willingness to help others, Gary could always be counted on to lend a hand when it was needed most.

He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie; children, Brittney (Zach) Lansdowne, and Brian Hahn; brothers, Tim (Darlene) Hahn, and Dave (Nancy) Hahn; mother-in-law, Retha Newbold; niece Kristy (Jonathan) Rosko; and nephews Matthew and Austin Hahn. He also leaves behind his great nieces and nephews, Addy and Rowen Leitch, Xander and Shiloh Rosko, and Rose Hahn, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and generosity.

A memorial service will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00pm at Triangle Grace Church, 5001 Tudor Place, Durham, NC 27713. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Gary's life and the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him.

Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and in the countless lives he touched through his compassion, generosity, and unwavering love.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Carolina Boxer Rescue, an organization that held a special place in Gary’s heart.
