James Noonan

James Edward Noonan
James Edward Noonan, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in North Carolina on July 14, 2026.
Born on December 6, 1937, in Schenectady, New York, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his military service. Following his honorable discharge, he dedicated his entire career to the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring at the age of 56.
Jim was the devoted husband of Donna Lee (Urkevich) Noonan. Together they built a life centered on family and, after retirement, enjoyed traveling across the country in their camper, creating lasting memories along the way.
Jim valued his independence and was happiest doing things his own way. Quiet, steadfast, and happiest living a simple life, he preferred the peace of home over the spotlight. He loved being on the water and fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a sailboat. Whether camping with his family or sailing, he found his greatest joy outdoors. Those who knew him will remember his determination, self-reliance, and unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Lee (Urkevich) Noonan; his sons, David Michael Noonan and Robert James Noonan and his wife, Giana; his grandchildren, Mia Angelina Noonan, Emma Victoria Noonan, Ilaria Grace Noonan, and Cole Robert Noonan; his sister, Leah Diello, her husband, Ralph, and their children, Jimmy, David, Cathy, and Lisa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team whose compassionate care, kindness, and support brought comfort to Jim and his family throughout his final journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a hospice organization or a charity of your choice in Jim’s memory.
