John Donald "Don" Burcin, 86, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026.
Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Don was the son of the late Andrew Burcin and Elizabeth Birosh Burcin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William "Bill" Burcin and Andre Burcin.
Don graduated from Hazleton High School, where he was known for playing a mean piano in a jazz band. He earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University before beginning a career with IBM that spanned more than four decades. He started in Endicott, New York, then moved to Burlington, Vermont, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He later settled in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he retired after more than forty years with the company.
Above all, Don was a deeply loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He was known for his intelligence, quiet strength, and kind heart. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply spending time with those he loved, he made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Burcin, and his wife, Alena; his daughter, Kate Burcin Bencker, and her husband, Bill; and four cherished grandchildren - Andrew's children, Matthew and Amelia, and Kate's children, Rowan and Stella. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
