John M. Garvin, Jr.

On July 26, 2026, John “Jan” Madison Garvin, Jr. passed after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Janice, two children (Jeanette Silvis and James Garvin), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as a brother (Rodney Garvin) and a sister (Sallie Garvin) and many nieces and nephews. There will be an intimate viewing and celebration of life at City of Oaks Funeral Home . Following the visitation all are invited to lunch at the Golden Corral on Capital Blvd in the private party room on July 31, 2026 at 12:00 pm. His cremains will be interred at Quantico National Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.
Jan had several successful careers and traveled extensively. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and then transitioned to the FBI Academy as a Producer Director in the Training Division. It was there that he became involved with the Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Video Association International (LEVA) in which he served in multiple positions during a period of about 30 years, ending as the Executive Director Emeritus in May 2024. Jan was an inspiration to all who knew him. His work ethic, sense of humor, and kindness throughout his life created a legacy well worth celebration.
