Kenneth James McAuliffe III
February 1, 1959 – September 26, 2026

Kenneth “Kenny” James McAuliffe III passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and a generous spirit that touched everyone that knew him. Born in Washington, D.C., Kenny grew up in Calverton, Maryland, where he developed the friendships and values that shaped his life.

A proud graduate of Virginia Tech University, Kenny earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1981. Shortly after, he began a distinguished 34-year career with Shell Oil Company. Over the decades, he held roles of increasing responsibility across technical, operational and managerial areas in Shell’s refining and chemical facilities. His work spanned gasoline production, the construction and startup of a new chemicals production unit, and several corporate roles that took him to Shell sites around the world. Kenny’s professionalism, integrity, and ability to connect with people earned him lifelong friendships that remained central to his life long after his retirement in 2015.

Kenny excelled at many sports and found his greatest joy in golf, especially in his retirement years. He approached the game with enthusiasm and humility, always eager to learn and always willing to share thoughtful guidance with anyone who asked. His steady presence and generous spirit enriched the lives of those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Beverly Scott (Marshall), his devoted partner in life for more than 35 years; his parents, Kenneth James McAuliffe Jr. and Paula Ellen McAuliffe (Timmons); his brother, Anthony Carlisle, and his sister, Katherine Anne Sizemore; his nephew AJ, and nieces Kendel, Mackenzie, and Lauren.

As most know, Kenny did not seek the limelight.  Therefore, there will be no Celebration of Life service.  He was passionate about supporting cancer research and advocacy, a cause close to his heart. Those wishing to honor Kenny’s memory may consider donations to the organizations he cared for deeply:

• V Foundation for Cancer Research at v.org/KMcAuliffe
• Kay Yow Cancer Fund at kayyow.com

Kenny will be remembered for his kindness, his curiosity, and the genuine love he carried for the people in his life. His legacy endures in the many hearts he touched and in the countless lives made brighter by his presence.
