Lana Sue Cox

Lana Sue Cox, 65, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on September 19, 2026.

Lana will be lovingly remembered for her generous heart, her big dreams, and the quiet ways she made others feel loved. Though years of illness altered the course of her life, it could never diminish the love she showed.

Every Christmas, Lana made certain her nieces and nephews received something they needed, something they wanted, and always something sweet. As her family grew, she carried this cherished tradition on to her great-nieces and great-nephews. Her means may have been modest, but her generosity knew no bounds. No matter how little she had, she never missed an opportunity to make each child feel seen, remembered and loved. We can't forget to remember her 2am phone calls where she would call to ask what we were doing. Those who knew Lana will forever smile at the memory of her familiar words, "Let me tell/ask you something!" Her voice, her calls, and the little things that made her uniquely Lana will be dearly missed.

Though many of Lana's dreams remained unfulfilled, her life bore beautiful fruit in ways that mattered most. Through simple acts of kindness, she planted seeds of love that will continue to grow in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her life reminds us that even in the most difficult seasons, something beautiful can take root, and the love we give can become a lasting gift to generations yet to come.

Lana was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ralph Cox, Sr.; her brother, Charles Ralph Cox, Jr.; her nephew, Jay Champion; and her favorite brother-in-law, Ray Champion. She is survived by her mother, Nettie Cox; her sister, Janice Champion of Clayton, North Carolina; her brother, Michael Cox of Mebane, North Carolina; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will forever cherish the memories of her thoughtful gifts and the love she so generously shared.

A private service will be held by the family.

In Lana's memory, the family asks that you extend a simple act of kindness to someone in need. Remember someone who might otherwise be forgotten, and make them feel seen, valued, and loved.

For the sweetest fruits of a life are not always found in the dreams we fulfill, but in the love we sow and the kindness that continues to bloom long after we are gone.
