Leon Marion Sanderson, Sr.

Leon Marion Sanderson, Sr., passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by love at the Transitions LifeCare hospice home. His devoted wife of 60 years, Judy, was faithfully by his side.

Born on March 23, 1939, in Duplin County, Leon went on to achieve an MBA from East Carolina University. He built a successful career in finance and demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit by launching his own business early in life.

Leon was a man who truly never met a stranger. Known for his deep compassion and an unwavering, quiet faith in God, he approached life and his final illness with a grace that inspired all who knew him. He was deeply devoted to his friends and, above all, to his family, who will forever remember his boundless love.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Lee. Leon’s legacy lives on through his wife, Judy; his brother, Ed, and sister-in-law, Emily; his two granddaughters; and his grandson-in-law.

At Leon’s request, there will be no immediate memorial services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the Raleigh Host Lions Club.
