MARION LEE DEMPSEY-aka: Cotton Dempsey, 70, died June 1, 2022 at the Durham VA Medical Center. He was born June 19, 1951 in Spartanburg, SC, the son of Marvin W. & Evelyn R. (Guyton) Dempsey.

Cotton graduated from Orange High School, Hillsborough, NC, 1969. Following graduation, he enlisted into the Navy, serving on the USS Shenandoah, AD 26, during Vietnam. Earning him a National Defense Service Medal. After receiving an Honorable discharge, he had some odd jobs before becoming a welder, which he traveled to different states working shut down jobs at power plants.

Best known for telling large stories and having a good time where ever he might have been. He will be missed greatly by his family and Friends.

He was a Member of the VFW 3447 Wild Cat Post, in Gaffney, SC. He loved his country, he loved his NASCAR, but most of all, he loved his fur baby, Sadie Pie and several other animals that had passed on before him. (Spanky, Maggie & TJ)

Surviving are his siblings, Martha D. Ellis (Mike) Timberlake, NC. Laraine D. Tuck (Skip) Clarksville, VA, and Dale W. Dempsey (Cindy) Clarksville, VA. Nieces, Tracy Phillips (Dale) Roxboro, NC. Chrissa Johnson (Robbie) Durham, NC. Sherry D. Shriver (Johnny) Clarksville, Va. Nicole Dempsey, Hillsborough, NC, Lori D. Wardlow, Mebane, NC. His only nephew, Scott Thompson of Youngsville, NC and several great Nieces and great Nephews that he adored.
