Mary Helen Roberson Sorrels

Mary Helen Sorrels, age 93, passed away on October 11, 2026, in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. She was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina and grew up there. She was one of nine children of John Bostic Roberson and Clara McDade Roberson.  

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Jack Sorrels. After graduating from the Rutherford County Hospital School of Nursing, she and Jack moved to Raleigh where she had a career as a registered nurse and also providing child care.  Helen loved helping people and caring for them as they got well. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she and Jack taught Sunday School to first and second graders for years. Later, she enjoyed being a member of the Pearl Bible Class.  

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and being outdoors. Helen was an avid reader and gamer of puzzle books.  She is survived by her daughter Lisa and husband Ted, and her son Larry and his wife Kathy.  Helen and her sweet hugs will be profoundly missed.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, October 23, 2026 at the Chapel of Memories in the Montlawn Cemetery, 2911 South Wilmington Street, in Raleigh.
