Peter Arthur Bileckyj

March 1951 - June 2026

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity College and earned his Master of Library Science degree from the University of North Carolina. He worked for 30 years as Head of Adult Information Services Librarian at the Wilson County Public Library in Wilson, NC.

He was a relentless volunteer for charitable causes, including Meals on Wheels, the Ronald McDonald House, and the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. He also served as Board Chair of the Wilson County Office of Senior Citizens.

He spoke fluent Latin, German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese and was an authority on English literature and grammar. He was an accomplished photographer, with a particular appreciation for the parks and landscapes of North Carolina and Zion National Park in Utah.

An inveterate book collector, he donated thousands of books from his extensive collection to the Chapel Hill Public Library. He also loved baking and was well known for his holiday fruitcakes.

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, 304 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC, on Friday, August 21, at 3:00 p.m.
