Sherry was my sister, my friend, and one of the strongest, most generous people I’ve ever known. She spent most of her life in Garner, North Carolina, where she built a world filled with family, friendship, laughter, and love. Sherry had a way of showing up for people without being asked—steady, dependable, and quietly heroic in the moments that mattered most. She was always the first to help and the last to admit she needed anything in return.
Family meant everything to Sherry. She poured her heart into the lives of her nieces and nephews, and that love only grew as the next generation came along. She had a gift for making each child feel seen, supported, and safe. Her presence brought comfort and strength, and she was the person so many of us leaned on without hesitation.
Sherry loved the beach with a passion that felt like part of her soul. Being near the ocean brought her peace, and she found joy in traveling and exploring new places whenever she could. She was happiest outdoors, soaking in the sun, the breeze, and the simple beauty of the world around her.
She carried an active spirit throughout her life. From her younger days playing tennis, running track, and shooting hoops, to her lifelong love of watching and enjoying sports, Sherry never lost that spark of energy and enthusiasm.
Sherry is survived by her beloved daughter, Parker Louise Bryant (Anthony), who carries forward her mother’s independence, strength, and deep love for helping others. She is also survived by our mother, Sylvia Matthews; by me, her sister, Bonny Louise Morley (Nathan); and by our brother, Alan Scott Matthews (Sharon). She leaves behind her nieces, Ashley Dawn Oakley (Tyler), Lacey Anne White, and Cortney Faith Morley; her nephews, Bradley Scott Matthews (Allison), Landon Angel White, Aaron Alan White, and Daniel Lee Morley; a special friend, Brad Lamberton; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and countless cherished friends who loved her dearly.
A gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date. As Sherry wished, we will hold a celebration of her life later this year near her favorite place—the ocean.
Sherry will be deeply missed, and she will be lovingly remembered every day by all of us who were blessed to know her.

Angel Fund for Cancer Patients (Johnston Health Foundation) or
The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center

City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation provides an affordable cremation with a private family viewing. A private family viewing allows up to 10 immediate family members or friends to spend time with a loved one when a public visitation is not preferred.

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel.
