Steven Lee Evans passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on July 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

The son of the late Calvin Troxler Evans and Wilma Roberts Evans, Steve was born June 26, 1951 in Lexington, NC, where he spent his childhood.

Steve's athletic prowess was evident early in his life, and he received numerous accolades through the years for his skills in baseball, football, and basketball. His love of baseball, in particular, remained a lifelong passion and manifested in many ways: his unwavering allegiance to the New York Yankees as a young (and old) fan, his own playing days as a standout catcher at North Davidson High School and walk-on at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his years as a beloved coach for his sons' Little League baseball teams, and his opening and operation of his dream project "Line Drives", an indoor baseball training facility.

Steve graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He continued his education at the UNC School of Law, where he graduated with high honors and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. A lifelong Tar Heel, Steve fostered enduring relationships with his Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers.

Steve practiced law for more than four decades in Raleigh and Fuquay-Varina. One source of great pride came when Steve prevailed in a landmark tort case, securing a judgment from the North Carolina Supreme Court that enabled citizens to seek justice and recover damages for negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Steve’s favorite role later in life was grandfather. “Pop” loved his grandchildren and delighted in their affection, growth, and accomplishments.

Steve was characterized by his integrity and heart. He engaged others with respect, led with empathy and kindness, and quietly held fast to his values. He concerned himself with the well-being of his loved ones above all else and left an indelible impact on his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Chris; son, Zachary and wife, Mary Beth, and their children, Louise and Henry; son, Grayson, and wife, Samantha, and their daughter, Adeline, all of Raleigh; brother, Calvin, and wife, Loretta, of Graham, NC; sisters-in-law, Melissa Frazier, of Southport, NC and Jennifer Jolley, of Rocky Mount, NC; and niece and nephews, Jennifer Caligan, Frank Jolley, Jr. and Ford Jolley.

A private memorial was held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
