Susan Zehmer Cusson, age 83, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home, attended by her son. Born to the late Litt Hardy Zehmer and Anna Ham Jones Zehmer, Susan grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, sharing an exceptionally close and cherished bond with her mother. She herself was a dedicated mother and family member, and valued a quiet life with those she loved. Susan had a deep appreciation for history, education, and the arts. Following her UNC-CH Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, she completed an adventurous year of graduate school art history studies while living in Italy and France, a cherished chapter of her life. She later went on to share her love of the arts with others, working several years as a college-level art history teacher, before settling down in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area. Outside of her career, Susan focused her time on raising her son, and loved outdoor nature hikes, and keeping up with close friends and family. She is survived by her son, Bobby R. Cousin; her brother, Cary "Randy" Zehmer; her nieces and nephews, Jared Zehmer, Angela Vilches (and husband Luis), and Tanya Hunt (and husband Otto); and her grand-niece and grand-nephew, Elena Vilches and Connor Hunt. She also leaves behind her devoted friend of 40 years, Eric Tommerdahl, whose steadfast kindness and support meant the world to her. In keeping with her personal style and wishes, no public services will be held. Private family gatherings will take place to share memories. Susan will be missed dearly by her family and close friends, who will continue to remember the love and happy times they shared together.
