Virginia Irene Kucheravy

Virginia Irene Kucheravy, 87, of Creedmoor, NC, died peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at home surrounded by immediate family. She was born in Seymour, Indiana on May 9, 1939. She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Elizabeth Shahan. She married Francis E. Kucheravy, whom she met at college, on July 20, 1963 and together they had two children, Brenda Coe and Elizabeth “Beth” Hookstra. Virginia attended God’s Bible and Missionary Training School where she worked in the administration office in charge of donor relations. She graduated with a BA in Education. After graduation she was employed by Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, as a desk clerk for Central Supply and Blood Bank, of which she would quip that she was a “vampire” taking blood. After moving to Dansville, NY, she was employed by The Instructor Magazine. Following the birth of her children she switched careers, and she was “Aunt Ginny” to several children entrusted to her care while their parents were at work. She also took great pleasure in the raising of her grandchildren, of which the oldest three were often referred to as “the Three Sillies.” She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis E. Kucheravy; her daughter, Brenda Coe; her daughter Elizabeth along with her husband, Gregory Hookstra; four grandchildren: Dr. Kirstin “Kay” (Randy) Cutshaw-Garland, Sarah (Chris) Burton, Patricia “Trish”(Tony) Chung, and Johanna Hookstra; step grandson Caleb (Dylia) Hookstra; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her four siblings, Lou Ella Tankersley, Leon Allman, Rose Ann Hopkins, and Ruth Allman. Virginia was an avid reader, especially of Amish romance novels. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, as well as being very active in the Women’s Missionary Society; she spent many hours preparing felt boards and magnets as teaching aids. She loved playing board games such as Scrabble, Rummikub, Chinese Checkers, Skip-Bo, UNO, and PIT; many visitors were drawn into the fun. She looked forward to hosting Sunday dinners as well as summer Church Camp every July. Most recently she enjoyed the fellowship, games, and meals at the Creedmoor Senior Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 1 PM at North Raleigh Christian Church, 9225 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC 27613. Reception to follow.
